The Patterns of Life
April 2005

by Ralph Nault

We just had a great retreat in Feb at Kissimmee Florida. This is the first retreat we have had in Florida and because of Arlene’s illness the Mystic retreat was not scheduled for Jan. Michel and Carol are doing one in Maine.

Things are changing, so many of the people we know are in the middle of change, old patterns are being broken. It seems that from the time we are very young patterns begin to form in our lives and remain for many years and get stronger and stronger until we are bound by some of them and have a very hard time to break free from them.

There are many kinds of patterns some of them very good for us some very bad. When we went out west a couple of years ago there were signs telling us where the wagon trains went many years ago. In some areas the trail still can be seen because it was worn so deeply. Some of our patterns are worn very deeply to and as a result they are very difficult to break.

Our minds and thinking have many patterns. Our emotions have many patterns. Are they good for you or are they bad for you?

I have found that when we turn to God and have a true conversion it is not long before the Holy Spirit begins to put some pressure on our patterns and wants to break some. Why would He want to do that?

There are two levels of patterns. One is natural and carnal or worldly. The other is spiritual or heavenly. We cannot be in both patterns at the same time. If we are willing to allow the Holy Spirit to change our old patterns that brought death to us and the people around us He will teach us new patterns that bring life and healing.

Which patterns would you like to have?

These patterns can be eating, drinking, smoking, watching tv. They can be patterns of speech and behavior or they might be religious in nature or they can be very sinful patterns.

I think that every one of us have some of these patterns that are not good for us. I pray that the Lord will open our eyes and cause us to see. We will see clearly the twisted patterns in our lives and be willing for the Lord to replace them with heavenly patterns that are filled with life. Thank you Lord for doing that! Amen.
