The Lost Sheep (2010 Fall Newsletter)

Matthew 18:12-14
12“What do you think?  If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying? 13“If it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray. 14“So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish.

As I read this parable recently, I began thinking about how I felt like that lost sheep.  It made me think about my life and my walk with the Lord.  And over the years, there have been many pitfalls and distractions that resulted in my going astray.

When I was younger, it was my own stubborness, pride and rebellion that kept me on the path leading away from Him.  I was wanting to be part of the “in crowd”.  Later on it was trying to straighten out my life, beginning by the Spirit and then trying to perfect myself.  And still later on it was not taking the time to listen to the Holy Spirit speaking to me.  I simply did not take time to listen to Him.

No matter how I was led astray, the result was always the same.  I felt alone, empty and never able to fit in.  I felt unworthy, unloved and always a failure no matter what I tried.

I still remember to this day the sense of being alone even in the midst of a crowd.  Outwardly, no one could tell the pain I was feeling.  Oh, I entered into all that was happening around me but inwardly my heart was heavy and miserable, lonely.  Isn’t it amazing how alone and empty you can feel even in the midst of a crowd, at church, at family reunions, school or in any group.

Later on in my life, I started down the path of trying to fix myself up.  You know what I mean.  I tried doing it in my own strength and power.  The problem was that my strength and power was very limited.  The more I tried the more I failed.  The load became too heavy and the feeling of failure and guilt gets reinforced all the more.

And still later in my Christian walk, not taking the time to listen became the problem.  Not having an attentive ear to the Holy Spirit, whenever He speaks, caused me to stray off the path that leads to life.  I get busy with work, family, and my stuff.  No matter what it is or what I do, if I allow it to turn my ear away from Him and distract me, the same feeling of being alone and empty, unworthy, unloved and a failure enters in yet again.

The truth is that we all have been led astray, distracted and deceived in our lives at one time or another.  And our good shepherd, Jesus, leaves the ninety-nine and searches for us.  Yes, me!  He knows that we are scared, lonely and lost with no way of finding our way back.  He comes with arms out stretched and calls our name.  We faintly hear Him off in the distance and we turn and run back to him with arms raised high.  He sweeps us off our feet and holds us tight.

I tell Him, I am lonely and He says, I am here and I will never leave you.  I tell Him that I am afraid and He tells me I am your strength and shield.  I tell Him, I feel empty and He says my cup overflows and there is plenty for you.  I tell Him, I am unworthy and He tells me I died for you and you are worth it.  I tell Him, I am unlovable and He tells me I would do it all over again for you.  I tell Him, I am a failure and He tells me without Him it is impossible to find the path that leads to life, to move mountains and to walk with the Father.

Our Good Shepherd is looking for you and me and will not stop until He finds us.  And when He does there will be a celebration befitting a child of the King.

We are safe!  We are loved!  We are valuable!  We belong!  We are HIS!  And we are at home!

Act Or React! (2010 Fall Newsletter)

By Ralph Nault

We live in a time when some people are trained to cause other people to react.  Business people use this method so that we will buy their product and not buy the competitor’s product.

All of us have learned to use reacton from a very early age.  We didn’t know that we were using that tool to get our way with our parents but we were.  Watch some of the TV shows and see the violence that it brings forth in people.

Reaction often brings forth violence.  I am sure that all of you have experienced this in your own life at some time.  You reacted to something and then said or did something that was violent.

A politician will prepare a message ahead of time that will stir you up and make you angry to serve their purpose.  They want you to react against somebody or something.  If you do, then they have accomplished their purpose.

The Christian church is under attack!  Is this something new?  Or has it been under attack from its beginning?  The Christian church has been under attack from its beginning, and it is still growing.  Don’t react but be an active Christian.

Being an active Christian is more then joining a church, giving some money to that church, and saying my prayers every night and morning. There is nothing wrong with that and this should be a part of our Christian experience.

Being an active Christian means we should be affecting the world around us.  We should be bringing forth a message of good news.  We should be bringing comfort, healing and deliverance to a troubled world.

We live in a very troubled time.  Our nation and all the things we believe in are under attack.  One of our early presidents made the statement that if we were ever defeated it would be from within.  That is happening now!  We are being defeated by the very people we voted into office.  Many of our freedoms have been taken away.  Our nation is no longer the same as it was in the 1900s. Our leaders are not accountable anymore to the people they represent.

Many people have lost their trust in the Government, in our banking system, and in our church institutions.  We don’t really know who we can trust anymore.

God is involved in all of this.  He does not want us to put our trust in government, banks or institutions.  He wants us to put our trust in Him!  For too long we have put our trust in governments, banks and institutions and it is now time to put our trust in God, in the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

It is easy to get angry and violent and react.   Is this what we should do?

No!  What should we do?

Repent!  Stop looking to the world as our provider and look to Him who will meet all of our needs.  Come out of our church building and bring His power into the world.  Fulfill the great commission.  It is easy to use our church as a hiding place.

Ask God to forgive us for not trusting Him.  Pray and go out into the world with God’s power and message of good news.

We have turned away from God and He has turned away from us.  Pagans are taking over our land and Government and God is allowing it to happen.  God has not given us wise counselors, in our government, in our schools or our churches.  He has allowed deceiving spirits to take their place and deceive our leaders.Act!  Don’t react!  Place your trust in God and pray that He will restore and bless our land once again.

The Gift Of Forgiveness!

 by Michael Nault

I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name. 1 John 2:12

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up.  If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. James 5:15

I have struggled with a few things in my past and in this case it was with a relationship with a young lady during my Youth With A Mission years. I have always struggled with communicating with others and as this relationship was moving past the friendship stage, I simply walked away from it never allowing her the chance to voice her thoughts and feelings and I never allowed myself the same. There was no resolution. And this has bothered me on occasion throughout the years.

The memory of this would rise up and I would wrestle with it, ask God to forgive me and I would struggle some more. But it would not go away. It was like having a ball and chain hooked to my neck and ankles. It bound me up!

Well a few weeks back the Lord gave me a revelation that set me free. While I was in the shower one morning the thought rushed into my mind: “What a gift forgiveness is!”  And after I heard those words and pondered them, they had a profound affect upon me.

In a general way, I knew that the Lord had forgiven me. After all, I asked Him into my life many years ago by praying the sinner’s prayer. He came in and I walked with God to the best of my ability and strength (or to be more accurate I stumbled along with Him). I read the scriptures many times and yet there were still a few things in my life that nagged me from my past.

But the living word entered into my being. And in my spirit I felt the release. The ball and chain broke away, I was set free. The gift allows me to be free of my youthful indiscretions. And because of the gift of forgiveness from our heavenly Father through Jesus Christ, we can forgive others and ourselves too.  And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin. Heb. 10:18

I am no longer the man of ten, twenty or thirty years ago. I am a new creation, a new creature in Christ. And the free gift of forgiveness allows me to live fully today and not be tethered to my past.

Yes, “what a gift forgiveness is!” Thank you Father, thank you Jesus. And thank you Holy Spirit for leading and guiding me into all the truth.

What Do You Believe?

by Ralph Nault

I have found that if I allow the Holy Spirit to continue to lead me from the darkness into the light a wonderful thing happens. My faith increases!  The reason I say this is because the Holy Spirit keeps giving me more revelation, and as I receive more revelation I have faith for more things.

What do you think of the statement; “My people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge?

If you are lacking knowledge, you are also lacking faith in some area. You cannot apply faith in something you don’t know. I know we have all been given a measure of faith; but I also know that if faith is to be any blessing to us, we must give it direction, we must use it.   I have heard some people say; “I believe in God!” That is a broad statement that doesn’t mean much.  Many people from all around the world believing in all kinds of strange things say; “I believe in God!”

I expect that you know a large number of people that have received Jesus Christ as their Savior; so do I. Some of these people do not have much peace, joy or victories in their life. What is lacking? They lack the knowledge to apply the faith they need to have peace and joy. My faith, what I believe, has tremendous affect on my daily life. I have been amazed at some of the things Christian people believe and I have also been amazed at how little some of them believe.

I like to ask questions that make people think about what they believe. One of the answers I often get is; “The bible says!”  and what they say is correct, but that is not what I am looking for. I want to know what they believe not what the bible says. The bible says many wonderful things, which does not mean you believe it. Faith has to do with what you and I believe.

In areas of your life that you keep suffering loss and defeat, I would encourage you to ask some questions about your faith. What knowledge am I lacking? How can I apply my faith in this situation? Do I believe in the wrong thing?

I pray that our Father in heaven will bless you with true knowledge and your faith will be more active.
